The General Electric company makes two models of Hotpoint side by side refrigerators. The models look basically the same the only noticeable difference being the colors. There are several models of the top freezer Hotpoint refrigerator most ranging between 15.5 cubic feet and 18 cubic feet some of these various models have ice makers other do not. All have glass shelves and about 1/3 of them are energy star rated.
Compact Hotpoint Refrigerators
The compact version of Hotpoint refrigerators comes in all different sizes. The sizes are known to range from 1.7 cubic feet and can reach upwards of 6 cubic feet. You will discover the depth in some models is quite impressive. Then, there are models available in metallic, black, or white doors. The color schemes are limited but the quality of the refrigerators remains high.
While Hotpoint Fridge are not considered a popular model of refrigerator they do serve a certain segment of the public such as those who do not have the space for a full size refrigerator and those on a limited budget. Perhaps, it is because they do serve a specific segment of the population that has allowed these refrigerators to survive when other brands did not. Before the invention of refrigeration people struggled with keeping food fresh picking just what they needed from their gardens for each meal and salting meat to keep it fresh longer. However, due to lack of adequate cooling, cooked foods that were not eaten immediately often spoiled and had to be thrown out. In addition, some of the food products that were set on ice to keep cold would suffer their own version to freezer burn thus making that food unusable as well.
The introduction of the modern day refrigerator went leaps and bounds in keeping food from going bad, but even those early creations were like the ice blocks in where they were not always able to keep an even temperature to keep food from forming bacteria. By the mid 1960’s refrigeration became safer because of improvements. Therefore, food kept in the refrigerator did not often spoil if eaten in a reasonable period unless the fridge broke down. If a refrigerator was not keeping food cold it was easy to spot, however slight increases in temperature was frequently not seen. Even though technology has gone far in designing more efficient refrigerators, changes in the refrigerator and Freezer Temperature are still a health worry.
In order to properly slow the growth of bacteria refrigerators need to maintain a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower while freezer need to remain at 0 degrees Fahrenheit to keep food properly frozen. Even as little as a degree rise in temperature can cause bacteria to multiply at twice the desired rate spoiling some foods in as little as an hour or two.

One way of assuring that is buying thermometers for both the refrigerator and the freezer. You can check these thermometers frequently and any spike in temperature should be closely observed.
